Fantastic Curriculum
This curriculum (supplement?) is fantastic for those kids who love to read and learn. I even enjoy learning alongside with my 3.5 yr old. I think this is pretty advanced for their recommended age of 4, but if you want to push them a little I think it's a great option. We plan on revisiting these books and curriculum when he's older to reinforce concepts and introduce new ideas (the ones he's too little to understand right now). I wouldn't change a thing though, as we've enjoyed this curriculum more than expected!

Enriching our studies, simply and effectively!
We have incorporated Five In A Row with our core subjects to add variety and interest for our elementary students in co-op classes. The students are enjoying the stories and activities. The teachers are able to easily find activities that fit our setting and group. It is also simple to add more if you have other ideas you want to use. Very flexiible and solid education resource.

The program is useful for busy people.
This is my first time venturing into the world of home schooling, so I'm new. My impression of this manual is that it basically encourages parents to find different things to talk about in each of the books. For example, in a book featuring a map, the manual encourages parents to talk about maps. In a book featuring a grandparent/grandchild relationship, the manual encourages parents to talk about grandparents. I think a lot of this could be pretty intuitive--just talk about different things in the books that you read. However, for people who are busy and do not have the emotional energy to figure out different things to say about each book, this could be a useful tool.

We are loving FIAR!
Our family is loving the Unit Study approach with the guidance of Five in a Row. We are using it with our 7 and 9 year olds this year. It feels so much more cohesive than trying to use a random curriculum for science, history, art, etc. Highly recommend!

Love it!
I wasn't sure at first because I didn't understand what a unit study was and it looked like it was antique without the vibrant modern colors and designs. I have been blown away with this spiral book jam packed with great activities and questions to ask about THE BEST books that she carefully selected that both my daughter and I just love. Seriously it's a must purchase. It's not even as expensive as other unit studies that don't have the quality that this book does. It's a great deal.

Our daughter will be beginning kindergarten this year. We felt that the Five in a Row approach would best suit her as it is engaging, provides well-rounded exposure to various subjects, and includes art/hands-on activities.
We can also incorporate Biblical principles to every book. That makes this a wonderful solution for our family.

Does book one cover a whole school year? Or do we need to buy all 4 books for a complete year?
Megan C on Apr 7, 2017
BEST ANSWER: From the Five in a Row website: First of all, in the real world of home schooling few families study more than 30-35 weeks per year after holidays, illnesses, vacations, etc. So if you were to work straight through it would take about 2 school years to complete the FIAR lessons. But, with early learners you’re going to choose only one, or at most 2 of the simplest activities. Make a note of which lessons you’ve completed in the margin of your teacher’s manual and then when your children are a bit older you can come back a RE-visit this familiar, beloved story and complete the several other lessons you didn’t use the first time through.

Is the manual all I need?
Kendra P on Feb 5, 2016
BEST ANSWER: You can check out all these books at the library if you want to save money and that way all you need is the manual. My sister in law does it that way. However, if the library doesn't have the book, you have to be somewhat flexible with what story you do that week. I bought the manual and the book package mainly because it seemed more convenient and I wanted to add to our home library anyway. The books are wonderful! We read them over and over! Part of the reason why I'm happy we bought the package. Hope this helps :)
