Bible or history? Most sources list this in the Bible section, but I thought it belonged here, alongside Adam and His Kin and Genesis: Finding Our Roots. This unit study does involve much Bible study — but the chapters it studies (primarily Genesis - Exodus) related early history and this study intertwines Bible with the study of history with the goal of better understanding of each. The Bible and the Student Notebook are the main texts. Other specific resources needed are listed in the Teacher's Manual in lesson notes. This unit is a very ambitious undertaking which incorporates many additional curriculum areas as well. Social Studies, Art, Creative Writing, Speech/Drama, Anthropology/Archaeology, Logic, Geography and Linguistics are all included supplementally. The Art portion of the course is a progressive and self-taught mini-drawing course which gives students exposure to and practice of the basics. The student notebook is a work of art itself, with wonderful variety and excellent graphic presentation - it is an inviting book to work in. Map work is incorporated also, in a meaningful way which relates time, location and event. Children learn how to read hieroglyphics (real ones, from actual Egyptian writers). During the study of Egypt, students also learn about the major Egyptian gods because this knowledge is needed later to understand God's defeat of these principalities during the plagues. The country and language studies in the Dispersion of Man unit provide great exposure to the variety of languages and cultures. At least one country per continent is studied in some depth. Units are: Who Is God; Who Is Man; The Fall of Man; God Saves Noah; Dispersion of Man; God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob; Joseph in Egypt; and Moses Leads Israelites Out of Egypt. There are no set lessons per se, though there are progressive assignments through each unit, listed by page in the Table of Contents. As mentioned before, activities vary, though Bible, Discernment, and History make up the largest portion of the activities. You would probably just want to set an amount of time per day to spend on this unit study, and do whatever activities fit. Look ahead somewhat for any resources or materials to gather. This unit would suffice for Bible and History study during this time (and possibly writing and art at lower grade levels), but you would want to use other curriculum materials for other subjects - at least on days when those activities weren't addressed. Each child using the study will need his/her own Student Notebook (they are intended for individual student use; you may only copy up to 30 pages without permission from the author). The Teacher's Manual is also indispensable, containing lesson plans, directions, resource pages / cards, and answers. Excellent.
